Transport Licenses
Sir,—-At fast week’s: meetings olj the Transport Authority a serious imposition was inflicted on carriers by the decision of the Transport Authority that in future no carrier can untier a general goods license carry metal or public works supplies. L is clear that this is a very unjust announcement, and made without any regard to the rights of the carriers who in the past have assisted thengeneral carrying businesses by the cartage of’metal and public works supplies, particularly at slack times,
and Who are now prevented from keeping themselves and their employee's fully occupied. It also means that carriers who under this decision elect to use certain vehicles for only public works supplies and metal carrying will be placed in a serious financial!, position in the event of a luture cutting down of public works and local body spending, an event which may possibly happen in the near future.
No doubt this is the policy of the Government, and it appears again that the employer of labour and the man who help's to keep the country going and who further is engaged in the Important business of transport
gets much less consideration, than the labourer or factory worker. However, no doubt our Socialist Government will be quite satisfied at the decision made. TRANSPORT.
