Last Night’s Forecast General situation: A very deep and extensive depression covers New Zealand, with the lowest pressure over the South Island. An anticyclone is advancing from southern Australia on to the western Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds between north-west and south-west at first and moderate to ifr-es'h dm force, but a change to freshening south-westerly to southerly becoming general within about 24 hours, and reaching gale force in many places. Seas: In New Zealand waters—Rather rough on the West Coast, moderate on the East Coast, but soon rising generally and becoming very rough in exposed areas, eastern. Tasman Sea: South-westerly winds strong to gale force and very rough to high seas. Weather: Cloudy to overcast with occasional light rain at first, but a change to stormy, changeable and showery conditions advancing from the south and west, temperatures: Becoming very cold with snow showers extending to low levels in the South Island and hail in places.

To-day’s North Island Report BJue skies were reported at Aufck- ■ ann this morning, but overcast and unsettled conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island., with light ••ain fairly general. Light northerly breezes were reported at Auckland and Gidborne and light to moderate ■loufherlies elsewhere. The barometer had fallen to the lowest level if or some years. Temperatures ait !) o’clock were: Auckland 54 degrees, Tauranga and Gisborne 48, Opotiki 50, East Cape 53, Napier and Wellington 40. Rough seas were reported at Cape Campbell, Cape Palllser, Castlepoint, and Napier; elsewhere moderate or smooth Midday Forecast General Situation: A deep depression 'is centred west of the North Island, while an anticyclone is advancing across the south Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds variable at first 'but strong west do south-west later prevailing and reaching 'strong gale force in .places, rain probable at first, conditions later becoming cold and sitormy with heavy showers. Seas: Very rough.
