Draped with flags and bunting, and further decorate a with greenery, the Wairoa railway station provided the background for a scene of intense animation on Saturday, waen the formal handing over of the completed a P section of the East Coast Main Trunk railway was celebrated by a large gathering of district residents and visitors. A crowd estimated at between 2000 and 3000 people wel corned a Ministerial party which journeyed to Wairoa m the railcar Aotea, and the occasion was marked by much enthusiasm, the Minister of Public Works, the Hon R. Semple, and the Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, offering their sincere congratulations to Wairoa upon the achievement of a goal which public men had set before their No effort was spared to make the occasion a full-dress spectacle, and Wairoa citizens and settlers received many compliments on the manner in which the function had been prepared for.
