NELSON, Feb 2.

Ah inquest was "held \ to-day into the circumstances of the death of a young •married woman named Ellen Longden Minehan, living apart from her husband, who shot herself last night. The evidence showed deceased bad complained of headackes for some time, and last evening had with her sister and child gone for a motor drive with W. A. Smith, a city engineer, returning between 10 and 11. She immediately went to bed and shot herself with a revolver a a few minutes later. Mr Smith said he employed deceased as a sort of private secretary on work of a private nature. Shots were fired as he was leaving the house. He knew of no reason for the act. The jury found deceased shot herself during a tit of impulsive insanNELSON, Feb 2. At the inquest touching the death of Mrs Henry Eggers, killed at Upper Moutere on Friday by the capsizing of a trap, the evidence showed that'the horse shied at a passing motor car. A verdict of accidental death was returned and a rider completely exonerating Mr Arthur Maginnilv, driver of the car. MAItTON, Feb 2.

At Marlon Railway Station to-day the mail train from Wanganui ran into an engine being used for shunting purposes in the yard. Both engines are considerably damaged. Ono carriage is broken. No passengers are hurt but several fainted from the shock. A child was knocked through a window but was unhurt. There were two engines on the mail train. The fireman of the front engine is badly cut on the head and bruised on the shoulder and ribs. The line was cleared in about an ,ur. There was a lucky ©scape from a most serious accident.
