COMMISSIONER M'KIE AT THE OPERA HOUSE.
A lurge crowd met the arrival of the Otira train yesterday. His Worship the Mayoi' was introduced to the Commissioner by Staff Captain Ward. The Mayor welcomed the party in the name of ills people of Greymoutk. The Commissioner responded an! thanked His Worship in a hearty manner for the reception given to himself and party. In the evening large numbers of people lined the streets as the Army mustered in full force and marched, headed by a big united band consisting of contingents from Brunner and Blackball. A most thrilling and impressive meeting was conducted at ihe Opera House. Lieut Colonel Gilmour led the singing. The Bev Trestrail welcomed the Commissioner. This was shown to be sincere by the hearty clapping of tlio hand". Lieut. Colonel Hopskins the principal of the Melbourne Training Garrison, then addressed the meeting. The Colonel is a most pleasant speaker and wins the crowd at once, The address by the Commissioner will not be forgotten amidst deathlike silence and everyone's attention riveted on the speaker. The Army Leader preached a powerful sermon, taking for his subject "The book shall be opened," in the Army's idea. The meeting was a grand success, as a large number came forward to the penitent box s. Meetings will be continued tonight at the Opera House. The Commissioner will proceed to Reefton on Friday. >
