DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.
j |PER press association.] iNVERCARGriL, Jan 26. By a fire at Eiversdale on Sunday afternoon heavy losses were sustained. It began in the ceiling over a bedroom in Gee's Hotel, through which the kitchen chimney passed. The house, containing 25 rooms, with most of the furniture, was destroyed. A strong breeze carried the flames across a gap and D. Manson's store, bakery and dwelling were also destroyed. M. Lawlor's butchery perished. Gee's insurance on the building was—ln the Norwick Union 4»750; Sun, £250. The furniture in the South British was £200; Commercial Union, £75 ; Norwich Union,£22s. It is estimated that the loss over insurance is £I,OOO, Manson's stock (£1,000), the building and furniture £BOO. It is believed in the Eoyal office. He estimates the loss at from twelve to fifteen hundred, £6OO worth of new stock being recently received. Lawlor had an insurance of £250 in the Nation il, but his loss is not great.
