NEWS FROM ROSS.

(W*BT COAST TIMBS.) The returns for the local dredges still show a strong inclination to keep close together. The Kohinoor, having apparently crossed the old run of gold, is finding tha ground much more stiff to deal with, but it is highly satisfactory to know that payable gold is fonnd to exist outside of the area hitherto known. The Prince of Wales dredge lost time through having a blown out joint on the boiler, which necessitated cooling down for repairs. The return from this dredge is therefore satisfactory. Shareholders in the Boss Day Dawn G. D. Company will be pleased to learn that arrangements have bean made for the release and shipment of their dredge machinery. West Coast experience has shown the necessity for greater strength in important parts of dredging apparatus, and the Day Dawn Co's directors have wisely resolved on having their machinery altered to meet I the3o needs. When the alterations are completed in, say a fortnight's time, the whole machinery will then be ready for shipment to the claim, A local carrier, thinking to get a little cheap grazing on the river bed, found to his cjst that it is not always what hoks cheapest that is oheapefct. He turned out a valuabiedraugh<i horse which discovered a "fault" somewhere on the river bank, and falling in dislocated his neck, and £SO worth went "bung." Query—How many years' p idtbflking can a man get for JESO?
