Sydney, Jan 23, The railway revenue for the quarter decreased over £136,000 and tho expenditure increased by £37,000 compared with the pra’.ious quarter. This was due to tho drought and concessions on account of starving slock fodder, tho carriage of which represented a loss of £40,000. The extension of the eight hours system in the*'service increased the expenditure £IO,OOO. Tno tramway earnings increased nearly £33,000, The Drought Sufferers. Sydney, Jan 23. The Lrrd Miyor presided at a meeting of influential citizens in tbc Town Hall to initiate a fund for the relief of tho drought settlers. It was announced that already ho has received £3OO towards the fund, chiefly from New Zealand. The Tasmanian Primate and others made strong appeals on In half t.f the settlors, and gave harrowing details of the sufferand losses. A considerable amount was subscribed in the room. Slingamits Relief. Melbourne, Jan. 23. The Secretary of the Shipwreck Belief Society has forwarded to the Secretary of the Elingamitc Relief Fund, Auckland, particulars of tho Victorian claims. Five claimants are recommended for asssistance.
