Walter Smith, a young man, was committed for trial on a charge of murdering George Thomas Incc by setting fire to his tent at Malaroa some weeks ago. Fatal Accidents. Mangaweka, This Day. A lad, agad 5 years, the son of Mourland, Ohingaiti, was drowned by fa'ling into a well. The four year old son of Hegan, of To Mochau, was crushed to death by a wheel of a wool wagon passing over him.
Woodville Baths. Woodvillk, Thia Day. The new water works baths and recreation ground was opened by the Native Minister to-day. The town wa3 gaily decorated and visitors were present from th. 3 neighboring township*. /.The exhibition by the fire brigalo and die swimming sports were followed by a banquet. Turner cf the Highlander Ritfes again won the Champion belt and gold medal. The teams match was won by thu Wellington Guard?. A team from If.M S. Wallaroo, who competed in this event, but did not shoot into a placo. Lord HawKe's Cricket Team. Lord Hawke's cricket tram left tonight by steamer for Blenheim en route to Nelson and Westland. Yacht Race. The Port Nicholson YacSt Club Re gatta, first-class rac?, the Aorangi beat the Waitangi by 14 min; < seeond-c'ass rsce, Malnna beat the Mauri ia. Drowned. \ Pahiatva, .Tan 22. I At tbe cycling picnic to-day Chas Sheffield!, printer machinist, was drown d while bathing. The body was recovered. His relatives live at Ducedin. Banquet to Mr Hogg. Mastekton, Jan 22. A picnic was held to day in honor of Mr Hogg, member for Masterton, who was presented with a valuable gold watch by his constituents. Presentation to Mr Seddon. Mr Seddon was presented by the Wairarapa natives with a valuable old greenstone mere as a token of the Maoris' appreciation of Mr Seddon's work while Premier. In returning thanks Mr Seddon eulogised the work done by the Hon Jas. Carrol', Native Minister.
