THE SOMALILAND TROUBLE.
French aid for the Mullah. [per press association.—copyright.] Received this day at 9 2 a m. London, Jan 21. A patrol dhow in charge of Lieut Bevan and manned by six blue jackets with a three pounder made a valuable capture off the Somaliland coast. Those on board feigned distress and sent a Somali native to the masthead to signal. An Arab dhow was within range and a thrilling fight ensued. The dhow was captured and was foijnd to bo in possession of French papers from Jibuti), also eighty French rifles, ten thousand rounds of ammunition, seven thotisand revolver cartridges. These were were intended to be sent to the Mullah by a circuitous route.
These were confiscated and the dhow sunk.
Lieut. Colonel Cobbe with 450 men, African rifles and 50 Sikhs is starting from Obba ,for a fortnight’s reconnaissance towards Galkayru Welhi Mullahs headquarters. Cobbe was awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous bravery atErego when the Mullah suprised the British column.
