NOTES FROM REEFTON.

(our own correspondent.) fCHOOL EXCURSION. The principal topic, amongst the children especially, is the annual excursion to Greymouth to morrow, in connection with the Eeeftou Public School. For years past the annual oucing has bean looked forward to by them, as the event of the year, the visit to the seaside being always highly appreciated by us country folks. A large number of tickets are already disposed of, and given a fine day I believe that a larger number than ever before will avail themselves of opportunity. A special train train will leave Reef ton at 745 a.m. and leaving on the return journey at 4 50 p.m. The Harbor Board, through the efforts of the Chairman of the Greymouth School Committee, have kindly granted the excurs onists the use of a couple of tanks of water at the Signal Station, which I am sure will be highly appreciated by the picnicers. FIRE BRIGADE. The annual meeting of the members of the llsefton Fire Brigade, was held last evening at the Council Chambers, a large number of members being present. The balance sheet for the past year was received and adopted. The following were elcc ed to the various positions for the ensuing year:—Captain, T. Lecher, Lieutenant, J, Grange, Foreman Hose Reels, J. Irving and H. Eater, Foreman Hook and Ladder carriage, E. Stringer, Secretary, E. J. Scaatlebury, Auditor, J. Patterson.

Captain Lecher thanked the members heartily for the confidence placed in him, while he had oempied that position. With reference to the team going away to Napier, he would do his utmost to coach them up to proficiency, so that they will bo able to give a gcod account of themselves.

Secretary Scantlebury also thanked the members for having re-elec ed him now for the 24th year. He had always taken a keen interest in the working of the brigade, and would do so in the future. The sum of one guinea was voted to the widow of Fireman Parker, of New Plymouth, who lost his life at the late fire in that city. The matter of the adoption

of new rales was left in the hands of the offices of the brigade to submit at next meeting, when the team who are going to compete at the demo istcation, to be held at Napier in March next, will be selected. At the close of the meeting the -members were invited to the Exchange Hotel by Lieut. Grainge, where a pleasant hour was spent by them.

GIFT AUCTION. The trustees of the Methodist Church have decided to hold their annual gift auction in the Princess Theatre on Friday

and Saturday, 3rd and 4th \prilnext. I feel sure that this year’s gift auction will be as highly successful as those which have been held by onr Methodist friends during the past few years. At the adjourned quarterly meeting hold on Friday last, it was decided to send Mr D. M. Anderson, of Glenbnrnie, te—the conference at Christchurch in March next. It was also decided that the Circuit Stewards be instructed to send a letter to the District representative*, asking them to use their utmost endeavors in obtaining the services of Eev Mr Grigg retained for another year. This gentleman has now spent nearly four years amongst ns and I am sure the members of the congregation will deeply regret if the conference removes him elsewhere.

MUSICAt. Miss Wastney, of Nelson, who has taken over Miss Potts’ pupils for the pianoforte, commenced her duties today. This young lady comes to us with the highest credentials, and I have no doubt will give general satisfaction.
