There are fifty-five candidates for the forthcoming examination, to be held on January the 28tb, and the three following days, for mine managers and battery superintendents’ certificates. The dredgemaster of the Orwell Creek d radge reports, under date December 17, that the dredge is working well. Owing to the depth of ground the opening-out operations require to be done very carefully. The dredge is now working to a depth of oyer 40ft. He says it will take three weeks yet, and perhaps four, before he will bo on the gold, but he is now satisfied .that he will bottom within the
time mentioned.
'Che dcedgomaster of the Erickson’s ’R ward dredge reports“lhe ground is getting much freer to work, thus enabling the dredge to treat more wash, which irresponsible for-the improved returnviz., 290 z 3dwt,—-the quantity of wash treated being about 4000 yards for the week. If we had more steam power we would be getting much higher returns. r There will be no return for the next two weeks as the dredgemaster is going toeffect some necessary repairs. The diractors have decided to either discard the engine and boiler now.in use or put in a larger boiler and a email engine to work the pnmp. The second annual meeting of the R leva’s Proprietary Company is to be hold at Christchurch on January 6th, The directors in their report refer to the difficulties to be met with owing to the roughness of the ground and delays consequent on breakages caused by the dredge being unable to cope with the rough wash. The dredge is now, however working more satisfactorily, and a good run is expected without further mishap. The ground proved uniformly good. The whole of the liabilities have been wiped off, and there remains a cash balance in the Bank of £lls 19s lOd. The debit to profit and loss account is £l,lOO 11s 2d. • Since the commencement of operations in November, 1900, to November 30. h this year, the gold won amounted to 7090zs 13dwts 13gr«, valued at £2,829 2s Id. Reference is made to the departure of Mr A. P, Harper for London to place the ■company’s property on the market there.
