James M'Kenzie, brother of the member for Waihemo, who since 1879 has been the chief draughtsman in Wellington District Survey Office, has been appointed Chief Surveyor and Commissioner of Crown Lands for Taranaki. The Season’s Greetings. Colonel Porter of the Seventh Contingent wires to the Premier from Dundee and Ingozo as follows “ The lads in the field wish you to publicly convey Xmas Greetings to all their friends and relatives in New Zealand. The regiment is cheerful and well.”
Free Railway Passes.
Ddnedin, This Day. Acquiescing on the representation of Mr Millar, the City member, the Minister of Hallways consented to restore to volunteers the privilege of free passes on the railway when travelling from the district for the purpose of shooting at competitions.
