Trout seem to be very abundant in the Galatea district (says the Botorua paper) and some exceptionally good hauls have been made during the last week. Twentytwo fish were taken by W. F. Bird in one day, totalling 801bs weight. Mr Murphy’s catch for one day was 12 fish, weighing 401bs altogether. The fire-reel station at Brook-street, Nelson was entered the other day, and the gear there so interfered with that it would hare been useless in case of fire.
No less than 10 applications for disolution of marriage were before Mr Justice Conolly during the Auckland sittings of Supreme Court. In all ten cases decrees nisi were granted. Extensive deposits of kauri gum have been found on an island in Tauranga Harbor as a depth of Bft to 10ft. A syndicate has been formed to take out the gum, which is believed to exist in very large quantities. Aboat 200 men are to employed. The Mines Department is being urged to assist in ascertaining the extent of the coal deposit in the Kaureranga Valley, just outside the Thames Borough, There was a novel entry at the Egmost A. and P.
