One of ihe greatest theatrical treats yet afforded Greymouth playgoers is promised in the approaching visit of Miss Janet Waldorf, the brilliant young American actress, who has just concluded a successful three weeks’ season in Wellington and who cc mmenqes ju season here on Saturday night. 'Miss Waldorf her first appearance on the stage some six years ago in $ leading New Yojrk theatre, when as Juliet, in “llomeo and Juliet" she created quite a furore, the critics bailing her at once a« a coming “star." How well this has been borne out is shown by a glance through her notice books, when is seen that throughout her tour of the United States, Japan, China, Straits Settlement, Burmah, India and Ceylon, nothing but the greatest praise has been lavished on the charming young actress. The Wellington season, concluded with a grand production of “ The Merchant of Venice," the fall of the curtain being the cue for one of the most enthusiastic scenes that were ever seen inside the walls of thp Opera Mouse,

The hag* audience rose and cheered the young actress again and again, while the musical director was

fally occupied and kept . busy for quit* ten minutes handing up floral tributes and other tokers of esteem to the handsome young artiste, who smilingly bowed her acknowledgments. Miss Waldorf is supported by a leading Ametiean actor in the person of Mr Norval Macgregor, whose taste for travel has led him to many foreign lands, and a strong eompany of twenty-two legitimate artists of metropolitan reputation. The first play to be staged in Qreymonth is “As you Like It.” Other .plays to follow in order are “Camille,” "Ingomar,” “The Lady of Lyons," and “Borneo and Juliet.” The season should be a record one for Qreymonth.
