Purchase of Hanawatu Railway

The Chair can of the Manawatu Kailway Co., has received a cable advice from the principal London shareholders that they approve of the purchase of the line by the Government. As it is not certain whether this is the decision of a meeting or merely an expression of opinion of some -of the chief shareholders, no meeting of local shareholders will be held until more advice has been received. Four Houses Burned Down. Wellington This Day.
Three houses occupied by Messrs Picken, Kobson and Angell, and one untenanted building were destroyen by fire at Jobnsonville last night.
Charge of Arson. Wellington, December 18.
Tbe case of arson against Henry Smith, charged with having set fire to a building in Cambridge Terrace, was dismissed by a bench of Justices to-day.
Wool Bale.
The second local wool sale of the season was held to-day, when about 900 bales were offered. The prices ruling about on a par with those at last sales.
