The Paris newspaper Temps dealing with the Eastern situation, says it is not for France to show zeal in the maintenance and integrity of the Ottoman Empire Germany has lately assumed a position of semi-official protectress of the Sultan, but France refused to play into Germany’s hands against England, and will not play against Italy. The Tripoli question is said to concern Italy and the Sultan and the Sultan’s friends. •; M. Berard, a high authority on the Eastern situation, writing to a Parisian magaziim, alleges that Bussia encouraged the Sulran to resist France in the recant trouble over the Constantinople docks, and the bankers claims, hoping eventually to occupy Armenia herself.
