IN view of the probability of an EIGHTH CONTINGENT being despatched to South Africa, the following information, which is subject to revision, is published for the guidance and information of intending applicants : Two battalions will be formed consisting of 500 men each—one from the North Island and one from the South Island. Officers’ applications to be submitted as early as possible through the officers commanding districts. Applications from non-coms and men to be made by letter to “ The Recruiting Officers, Bth Contingent,” at the nearest of the following recruiting centres named —Nelson, Blenheim, Motueka, Westport, Greymouth, and Hokitika. Applicants should state height, chest measurement, and weight; also, previous military service. The physical standard being between the height of five feet six inches and five feet ten, chest measurement expanded thirty seven inches, and weight not to exceed twelve stone. After the Officer Commanding has appointed the recruiting boards, namely two Volunteer officers and a medical effleer, a date will be fixed and provisionally accepted. Applicants will be notified by the Recruiting Officer to present themselves to him for medical examination and riding test. Only applications addressed as above will be received, By Order, NORMAN L.
