CRICKET.

Grey Club y. Ngahere.

(By Bales.)

In the Cricket match Grey Club v. Ngahere played at Ngabere on Saturday. The visitors won tho toss and sent the local team to tho wickets. Whitehorn opened tho bowling for tho visitors, and with the first ball clean bowled T. O’Brien. This bowler seemed to paralyse the batsmen. In tho first over ho secured 8 wickets, and at the finish of the innings

had secured 7 wickets for 6 runs. The total score being only 10, Rain made the ball diffiolut to bold, when Grey went to bat and so gave them some some advantage in bowling; Whifcehorn, Murphy, Williams, and Phillips did not fail to take advantage of loose ones. O’Brien managed to keep the ball on the wickets, notwithstanding the greasiness of the leather. In the Ngahere team I should say W. Weir should prove a dangerous bowler, when in practice. He kept a good length and in 8 over got 1 wicket for 8 runs—bowling two maiden overs. Greymonth total for first innipgs was 101. In the second innings Ngaherejmt up 25 for one wicket. 11, Williams, T. and D. O’Brien hitting freely. The ball was almost impossible to control by this time, being sopping wet. The fielding of the Grey team was good, and more attention was paid to tho calling, when running. Ngahere second innings closed for 77, leaving Qreymouth ahead by an innings and 14 runs.
