ANOTHER CONTINGENT OFFERED.
(per press association).
Wellington, Dec 13.
The Premier cabled through the Governor to the Imperial authorities offering 1,000 men, the length of service 12 months or till the close of the war or if sooner, and asks that this contingent be amalgamated with the 6th and 7th and placed in one column. The Premier expresses his belief in his telegram that the additional men would not be required, if all the statesmen and parties in the United Kingdom had been glided by love of country and patriotism there can bo little doubt that the unguarded speeches and writings have encouraged the Boers to go on with a hopeless struggle.
Auckland, Dec 13.
Three Auckland city members and Mr Jackson Palmer (Ohinerauri) support the proposal to send an 8:h Contingent to South Africa, Witheford qualifying this with the condition that the Imperial Government should first apply for more.
