ENTERTAINMENT AT BARRYTOWN.

A concert in aid of the Greymouth Hospital was held at Barrytown in the Bijou Theatre on Saturday, November 30th, after which, a very enjoyable dance was held terminating at midnight.
The first p*rt of the concert programme consisted of a variety entertainment by the Waiwhera Minstrel Troupe and wa* giv-n with gr. <*>, success to a large and appreciative t amongst whom where a number of visitors from Greymouth and Cobden, Messrs Foster and Uyall kindly bringing them out in thsir conveyances, Mr B Quinn in the capacity of interlocutor with Messrs W. Murtagh and T. Moore as eornermen left aathing to be desired in the way that they carried out theic respective parts. The Sokes being given in a crisp and humorous scyle including several very flood Iwteai hits.
The second part of the programme •was opened with the usual overture. Mrs contributed the first abng, "Jock O'flazledene" and had to respond to an encore. Mrs P. Warren was equally successful in her choice of "A Flower from my Angel Mother's Grave.' The other items by various members of the Company were thoroughly appreciated. Mr W. Murtagh supplied the comic element with great success, especially in th« farce "Wanted a Cook" which brought one of the most successful entertainments ever given in the district to a close, everyone, going home satisfied to the strains of the National Anthem. The dresses of the ladies at the dance were all very preHy, and too numerous to mention, Miss M. Steele carrying off the honor of "belle."
A meeting of the Waiwhera Entertainment Committee was held on the 9th December. The Treasurer) Mr Morris, after referring to the enjoyment and success of the concert and ball read the bal-ance-sheet, which showed the aggregate receipt to be £21195, tho expenditure £5 19s, and the net proceeds for the benefit Of the Grey Hospital £l6.
Proposed by Mr Berdiner, seconded by Mr S'eelo, that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Mrs Wafer for kindly dispensing tea and coffee at the dance. Proposed by Mr Morris, seconded by Mr Quinn that a vote of thanks be accorded to the Greymouth Brewery Co and Mrs Pearn, for their generous donation of refreshments.
Proposed by Mr Trent, seconded by Mr Brown that a vote of thanks be accorded to Mr -Fogarty for his trouble and kindness in getting costumes etc, for the concert.
Votes of thanks were accorded to Mr T. Byall for the use of his hall for the dance, and Mr Langridge for supplying the music.
