THE BOER WAR.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.] Eight Contingent Proposal. tSEciAiTo "Stab") Ddnbdin, This Day. The Otago Daily Times strongly supports the despatch of an Eight Contingent, and says: " His Excellency, the Governor made a timely reference to this subject at the distribution of prizes at the Boy's High School yesterday afternoon. He expressed his personal view that a large number of mounted infantry should be poured into the Transvaal to over-run the country, and put an end to this guerrilla warfare. There is no room for doubt as to his view of what the colonies should do, for he expressed the opinion that they would each and all contribute their quota to terminate the struggle. Under all circumstances it seems to us that it would be wise as well as a patriotic action on the part of the Commonwealth and New Zealand Government if they were to tender an offer of sub -tantial additional aid in South Africa, and propose to raise fresh contingents upon terms similar to those nnder which the Sixth and Seventh Contingents were despatched from this colony. This would be an effectual answer to our German critics, and it would be an action that we could flatter ourselves, and would not be without useful effect in Africa as well as in Europe. Received this day at 9 5 a. m. London, Dec 12.
lan Hamilton has reached Pretoria.
It is estimated that three thousand Boers are under arms in the Orange colony.
The London Stock Exchauge has applied to raise a yeomanry regiment. Fifty young foreigners mostly French men applied in London to enlist in South Africa.
Ottawa, Dec 12. There is a large excess of recruits in many towns in Canada for the new Contingent being dispatched to South Africa.
Paris, Dec 11
