THE CAYERSHAM ELECTION.
Split in the Labor Party. Sectarianism Dragged in the Arena. (Special to "Stab.") Dunedin. This Day. That the Labor Vote will not be united in the Caversham contest is daily becoming more apparent. Warren speaking at South Dunedin last night, attacked the method of selection of a candidate by the Worker's Political Committee, describing it as most unfair. Stewart and Taverner whose names were submitted to the Labor organisations, write to the Daily Times accusing the Worker's Political Committee of a breach of confidence, and therefore reserve to themselves the light to act in any way they think fit, declining to bo bound to the pledge giveu to Committee in good faith.
Earnshaw, speaking at Caversham last night, declared that preference was being given to Catholics in the. Civil Service and that the country was not being run by the Liberal party but in the interests of the Catholic Church. He raised laughter when he informed the meeting that he could have had Cabinet rank had he kept his mouth shut when a member of the House, and that on the present occasion could have had the Ministerial backing, despite all labor organisations, had he chosen to declare himself a follower of Seddon.
