THE FUTURE OF MEXICO.

San Fhaxcisco, Nov 14

Robarfc F. Hill, a member of the United S.ates Geodetic survey, recently returned from Mexico, reports that that country is rapidly becoming Americanised. " Mexico," said he, "is such an old country; there is nothing new there except the thousands of American dollars which capitalists arc pouring in. Mr Rockfeller, and the immense interests which are behind the United Sates Steel Corporation, are interested, and tho next few years will see such a development of mining as no other section of the country has ever seen. Perhaps the greatest development is in the copper mine?, many of the mine 3 worked long ago by the Spanish fjr silver are now being worked over again for copper, and are proving payable properties. Large smelters are being built in various parts of the country, and I believe more attention will be attracted to Mexico, because of the mining operations than is now attracted to the mining fields of the far north west. The railway mileage is being rapidly extended, and American waggons and implements are baing brought in. The people welcome Americans, as they bring money and pay good wages. There is a steadily increasing profit in silver mining in the country and the production has reached twenty five million dollars annually. In the last five years the production of gold has increased from two to five million dollars per annum. There are about a thousand productive mines in Mexico at present."
