GOVERNMENT APPOINTMENTS.
The Land and Survey Department,
[PEE PEES 3 ASSOCIATION.]
Wellington, This Day.
It now appears that Mr McKerrow was retired by the Government from his position as Land Purchase Officer, and that his retirement was not of his own initiative. Indeed, it is said he did not know of it until the recent appointments in the Land and Survey Department were fixed up. In retiring Mr McKerrow the Government is losing one of its ablest and most capable officers. His retirement will certainly bo a loss to the Lands for Settlement Department. It is understood, however, that there was a difficulty in the way, in that Mr Seddon was opposed to Mr Barron's receiving the Surveyor-Generalship, is looked upon as a most capable and straightforward officer, and a very hard worker, and one who will be able to successfully manage the Department.
