Sir Geo. Turner angrily-told Mr M'Millan that he would not make a singie compromise on the tariff, because he might get fruit on the free listInstead of accepting the Government offer of Is, Watson moved to reduce bananas to 6d per cental. Government accepted Is. Air Millan vainly asked Government to adjourn, as they had been sitting since 10.:;0 yesterday and then moved the Chairman out of the chair.

A vigorous stonewall followed, the intention of the Opposition being to prevent the resumption of the tariff debate till this afternoon.

The stonewall was kept going till the luncheon adjournment. Eesuming at two o'clock, another hour was spent in an explanation of the position on both sides. Mr M'Millan said he was satisfied that the Opposition, having forcibly expressed their protest against the action of the Government, he withdrew his motion and the consideration of the estimates' was resumed.

The duties cf Is 6d par cental on wheat, and malting barley passed after an attempt to place the former on the free list.

Government agreed to the reduction oi a half-penny per pound on oatmeal, rolled oats, wheat meal, pearl barley : Scotch barley.

Mr Watson carried an amendment reducing the duty on maizena and cornflour to a halfpenny, bran, pollard and sharps Is, and grain and pulse not elsewhere included 2s 6d per cental and it was passed.
