GOLD MINING.

The Greenstone Creek ia expected to give a return of 30 ounces at to-day's washing. The Greenstone Junction should show an improvement on last week's return. The Stafford-Waimea is reported to be oil good gold, but some delays have occurred during the week. Broken Hill Company.

At a meeting of the Broken Hill Block Ten Company, the report showed a loss of £l3O on half-year operations. This was caused by the depreciation in. the price of metals, especially lead. The Federal Tariff would lessen the earning power by £3,000 per annum. The chairman announced that the directors of Block Ten,. Block Fourteen and South Mines had decided, in order to make the mines r3main at work with metals at the present low rates, to ask employees to accept a reduction of ten per cent in wages.

The report was carried and a reduction endorsing the directors reduction proposals and if necessary the shutting down of Block Ten.
