PERSONAL.

At the invitation of Mr Sutherland dredgemast3r of the Leviathan dredge, the Crew assembled last Friday at his residence for the purpose of wishing "bon voyage" to Mr Robert Weir, who has been appointed Manager of an Otago ~\lredge. After partaking of refreshments, several toasts ware duly honored. Mr Gregg in proposing the toast ox the guest, referred to the high esteem in which Mr Weir was regarded, and folt sure that ho voiced the sentiment of the crew in saying that Mr Weir's departure from the district was no small loss, socially and

otherwise', and as souvenirs of the respect in which they held him, presented a very handsome set of sleeve links and a gold mounted pipe. Mr Weir after thanking his comrades for their presentation, remarked on the cordial relations existing between the crew and the directors of the Company, and he was pleased to say the utmost confidence and respect were reposed by the crew in the dredgemaster. Mr Sutherland in replying to the toast of the "Dredging Industry" regarded the outlook on the West Coast in a very optimistil light, and considered that is was now plaoed on a very substantial basis. In a characteristic humourous speech Mr Judd toasted "The Ladias," and he also in the course of the evening favoured the company with an exhibition of his euphonosrismagraphioal instrument the latest novelty from America, and it proved extremely diverting. A very enjoyable evening was brought to a close near midnight.
