Sydney, This Day, There was fine weather and a warm morning with cool breeze. The attendance was 10,COO. It was a poor display till the partner' ship of Noble and Poidevin. Braund's leg breaks seemed to paralyse the batsmen. Kelly made great efforts to got him to leg, but without avail. Howell and Kelly scored but slowly, the latter taking li| hours to compile his score. Trumper was in two minds about Braund and lost his wicket, while Hopkins, going out at one skied it to Tyidesley in the outfield. Duff was brilliantly caught by Braund low down off his own bowling. Noble and Poidevin beat Braund by stepping out, and scored quickly. Several changes were tried, but failed to separate them up to the tea adjournment. On resuming both batsmen reached the half century within a few minutes of each other. Then both hit out with vigor, sending the score along rapidly. Gunn and Barnes helped the score, the former with six no-balls in six overs, and Barnes two. Seven bowlers were tried to effect a severance. Barnes ultimately bowled Noble, who gave one chance. The partnership added 159. Poidevin continued to play magnificently, hitting the fence time and again. He scored 13 in an over off Braund. Irsdalc played freely.
