WRECK OF BARQUE ROYAL TAR.
The Mate Drowned—Others saved. (per press association.) Auckland This Day The barque Eoyal Tar was wrecked on Sheer rock Tiritir'i last night. The mate was drowned. The vessel sunk, and there are no particulars.
Later. The Eoyal Tar struck the rock at two this morning.
The steamer Nguoguru passing saw the vosssl sending up signals rockets and proceeded to render assistence. Before she got alongside the Royal Tar slipped off the rocks and sank in deep water.
The steamer found the Captain and crew in two boats.
Capt Morrison stated that Hunt, the mate was drowned.
The Captain, wife and child landed on Tiritiri.
Auckland This Day. _ Captain Mo risen and crew of the Royal Tar were brought to Auckland.
The name sf the ina'e browned was Kirby. He was a single man, native of Lancashire and joined the vessel at Newcastle,
The royal far struck a sunken rock and at once began to settle down. The crew put olf In boats. The mate, Kirby went into Ibe cabin to got his personal property but before he could return the vessel listed and sank.
