The first gathering of the New Zealand Axemen's Association was a great sue cess. About 1500 were present. The following are the results : Novice Chop, 18in blocks—TJrick 1, Ford 2, Jenkins 3. Time 2 min 20 4.5 sec.
Maiden Handicap, 18 in block— durnes (20 sec) 1, Urick (20 sec) 2, Volzke (15 sec) 3. Time 3 min 101.5 see.
Handicap Chop—First prize £6, second £2, third £l, fourth 10s, also a cup presented by Mr Hesbp. 18in block—First he.it, Hutton (scr), and Volzke (25 sec), , ' ; - tta-w 15 .v.. i.-l-l P. - .. (3oa .) . q ..1,3. Time, 'iaiui 38 2.5 .-mi;, decond heat, Gassey (-en, 1; Burns (35 sec) 1; G. Pettit dOscc) 3; Ford (20 sec), 4 Time, 2min 30 1.5 sec. jtlip Sawing—A. Moore 1; Hardy 2. Time, 52. 2 5 Sbc. New' Zealand Championship Chop. First prize £lO and New Zealand championship medal, second £2, third JEI. Casey, 1; Hutton, 2; Pettit, 3. Time, 5 min 511-5 sec. Double hand sawing—Uriek Brothers (6ft 4in), 1; Casey and another (oft lOin) 2; Pettit and Hutton (sft 7in), 3. Time, 3'2 2-5 sec. Handicap Chop—Final heat, Hutton (scr), 1; Burns 25 sec. 2 ; Pettit (10 sec), 3. Time, 2 mio. 30sec. Single Hand Sawing Championship 24in Dljck—Pettit, Tasmania, 1. Time,> Imin lS.jsec. Pettit held tho championship of ihe world for tho last two years, his best time being 1 min 49sec. This year he beat this by 30[sec. Taranaki Underhand Chop—Hutton scr, 1; Haywood 20 sec, 2 ; Burns 20 sec, 3. Time 2 min 33 2-5 see.
Single hand Sawing Handicap, 24in blocks.—Hutton 1 ; Urick 2.
