The first gathering of the New Zealand Axemen's Association was a great sue cess. About 1500 were present. The following are the results : Novice Chop, 18in blocks—TJrick 1, Ford 2, Jenkins 3. Time 2 min 20 4.5 sec.

Maiden Handicap, 18 in block— durnes (20 sec) 1, Urick (20 sec) 2, Volzke (15 sec) 3. Time 3 min 101.5 see.

Pettit held tho championship of ihe world for tho last two years, his best time being 1 min 49sec. This year he beat this by 30[sec. Taranaki Underhand Chop—Hutton scr, 1; Haywood 20 sec, 2 ; Burns 20 sec, 3. Time 2 min 33 2-5 see.
