' 1 In common with the rest of the Island wo experienced a sharp shock of earthquake on Saturday morning. Tho precise time was 7 45 a m., and it seemed to travel somswhat about north and sonth. The shock lasted several seconds and was the severest felt for many years. However no damage was done, excepting that our confidence in “ Thou sure and firmget pattb V has received a rude shaking,

and in some cases has perhaps vanished, 1 have been assured by one whose veracity is beyond question that the quake caused a swinging lamp in a certain shop in town oscillate for thirty minutes. Either the author or the lamp itself, or both must be extremely sensitive.

In a search for something fresh I was informed that “bad coughs and colds are raging in the district.’’ This is only natural considering what _ delightful summer weather we are enjoying.
