The Governor received a cable that Trooper Crofter Umbers, of the Scottish Horse, had been slightly wounded at Brakenslaagte. He is the son of a well known telegraph officer at Dunedin, The General commanding at the Cape telegraphs as follows :—The Damascus left Capetown on the 4th inst with Capt. Drury and 21 men of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, and Capt Ross of the Scottish Horse. They will tranship at Sydney. The Rimutaka left on the 4th inst with Lieut D. Stewart and R. H. Trotter of the 7th Contingent. London, Nov 14. The Cape Colony during the last two years expended £1,000,000 upon engines and rolling stock, only £150,000 going to foreigners. Lieut Groatkin, of the 6th New Zealaud Mounteds, is convalescent and has resumed duty. The raiders expelled from the Cape Midlands are reassembling near Calvinia. The Rand output of gold for October was 33,393 ozs. London, Nov 14. Commandant Maritz captured a convey at Bovcndam after a stiff fight, disabling 14 out of an escort of 33. The Boers lost similarly. They removed six wagons and burned the rest.
