SHIPS DETAINED AS UNSAFE.
A parliamentary paper has just been issued at Home showing the total number of ships ordered to be detained as unsafe since Ist October, 1876. The total number of ships reported as defective in respect to bull, equipments, or machinery, was 929, of which 10 'were found safe, 911 found unsafe, and 8 improperly detained. The total number of ships reported as overladen or improperly laden was 1,025, of which 8 were found sate, and the remainder unsafe. For the period from Ist July 1900, to 30th June, 1901, four ships were reported as detective in respect lo hull, equipments, or machinery, and allot them were found unsafe ; while the total number reported as overladen or improperly laden was 29, 20 of these being of foreign nationality, and all of these were likewise found unsafe.
