OUR LABOR LAWS.

[PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Wellington, Nov. 6,

The Arbitration Court took up the Driver’s Case to-day. Sam Brown, one of members of the Board did not sit, as he had been cited as a party. H. Field, member of the Conciliation Board, appeared as one of the representatives of employers. Justice Cooper expressed the opinion that it was an-improper proceeding for a member of the Board to represent parties in a dispute which he had heard as boardsman. It tended to bring the system into disrepute, for which he (Cooper) would be very sorry, as Conciliation Boards were a necessary part of the system. The Court could not, however, prevent Mr Field from appearing. Mr Field said it was within his rights. When a dispute first came before the Board, he resigned his membership, but when ro-eleoted he found other members of the Board sat upon in cases in which they were interested, and therefore, followed their precedent.
