PURCHASE MANAWATU RAILWAY.
Proposal carried by large Majority. (OUR R ARLIA3I entar vre outer) Wellington This Day Mr Seddon moved tho second reading of the Manawatu Railway sale and purchase Empowering Bill. Ho considered tho terms offered by the Government were fair to the best interests of the country. Capt Russell moved a hostile amendment that the Bill be read a second time, that day six months. The house had not had time to consider that which involved an expenditure of nearly a million of money. Sir J Ward said the majority of shareholders were in favor of selling the Railway. Af er a short debate the amendment was rejected 41 to 7 and the second readagreed to the voices. In committee of the Manawatu Railway Bill a proviso was inserted that the purchase must be completed by Ist May 1902. The Bill passed its final stages.
