(pee press association) House of Representatives. Wellington, This Day. TIMBER EXPORT BILL. The House mot at eleven. Hon Mr Mills moved the second reading of the Timbers Export Bill which provides that the Governor may at any time by order-in council, cause a duty of three shilling! per hundred superficial feet to be levied on timber leaving the colony. Capt. Bussell opposed the Bill on the ground that it was wrong in principle to impose an import duty under any conditions. Mills emphatically declared the Bill was not introduced in any spirit of retaliation. The second reading was carried by 35 to 18, and the House rose at 1 p.m.

Flax Grading and Export Bid, Maori Councils Act Amendment Bill, and the Victoria College Site Bill, passed their final stages.
The Supplementary Estimates At 3.15 the House went into Committee of supply for the consideration of the Supplementiry Estimates. On the item of £1,500 grant to the Prom : er fjr expenses connected wtth representation of the Colony at the Coronation of tho King, G. W. Russell asked whether this vote would cover all expenses and w*s the Premier to be the sole representative.
Seddon replied that there wore no other proposals. The session next year would be held at the usual time. The remaining items passed with alteration. The Legislative Council. DifATII OE THE HON. EOXAR. Wellington, Nov 7. On the Council meeting this afternoon an adjournment for an hour was taken as a mark of respect tj the memory of the la'.o Hon. James A, Bonar. POLICY BILL. The fallowing bills passed their final st\ge3, Mining Act Amondmant, Public Health Amendment, Westland and Nelson Coal Fields Administration. The Council agreed to compromise with the Lower Houso on the Amendments in the Factories Bill. The Timber Export B 11, and Nolson Hirbour Board Anasndinent Bill passed the final stages. The House of Representatives. TIMBER EXPORT BILL. The House met at 2 30. In Committee on the Timber Export Bill, tho power to levy higher duty than three shillings p3r hundred superficial feet but not excesding five shillinga was struck out of the schedule and the Bill was then put through the final stages. At 5 10 the House adjourned till 7. 30 as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Hon J. A. Bonar.
