Greymouth Evening Star. AND BRUNNERTON ADVOCATE. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1901. DEATH OF THE HON. JAMES BONAR.
A telegram received just as we were going to press, notifies the death at Wellington of James Bonar, who for years has been a member of the Upper House. The deceased was one of the early settlers of Hokitika—a gentleman who had occupied every public position the people could bestow upon him. For some years past his health had not been the best, and yesterday we had information of his removal to the hospital. No public man on the West Coast did more to advance the interests of the locality, and no one deserves to be better remembered. A kind, generous soul, a friend to all he could befriend, has passed away.
