UNWHOLESOME MEAT.

CBSISTDHUBCH, Nov 3.

At the Magistrate's Court Sydney Day, a butcher of Sydenham, was charged with having for sale unwholesome meat. Evidenco was given that the carcase in question, which' showed signs of pleurisy aud tuberculosis, was bought for small good?, sausages, etc. Several butchers deposed that small goods were usually made of greatly inferior meat,

James Knight, butcher repudiated these remarks as referring to the trade generally. The Magistrate commented strongly on the necessity for the strictest supervision of the meat trade, and the impropriety of using inferior meat for small goods. Accused wa3 fined 20j and costs. The proceedings were taken under the Police Offence Act by the police, the Sydenham Council having failed to tike an action udder the Public Health Act.
