BLACKBALL NOTES.

(OOR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

The annual meet ng of the residents, called for the purpose of forming an Improvement Committee, was held on Saturday evening. The following gentlemen were elected for the ensuing j r ear:— Messrs J. Leitch, J. Sneddon, R. Gregory, J. While, G. Brown, W. Leitch, J. Irving, J. Pearce, A. J. Wickes and Dr Millington. On Monday evening the committee met and the following officers were appointed : Chairman, Mr J. Leitch ; treasurer, Mr White, and secretary, Mr A. J. Wickes.

Last month, October, will ever be remembered by the business portion of the community for the great annoyance occasioned by the repeated times the mails were unable to be carried across the river. Once we received a mail on Tuesday and the next one was not delivered until the following Saturday, Fortunately we have telegraphic com* munication.

A movement is on foot to try and have Blackball declared a telephone bureau; then these mail inconveniences would not be so annoying, as all Blackball business is done with Grejmouth which has such a large exchange.

A very large amount of enthusiasm is shown over the' Athletic Sports. Everybody connected with it is working assiduously. Several men, under Mr Gregory's able direction, have been improving the Park, and a very creditable running track is now under way. This evening Steon-Smith Variety Company will give an entertainment in the schoolroom.
