SIR HECTOR M‘DONALD.
Our telegrams inform us that this exceedingly popular soldier has met with a tremendous reception wherever he has gone. The Australasian supplies the following as indicating the warmth of the welcome : They came to the station, Each Malcolm and Ronald, All shouting in chorus To “Hector Macdonald.” A day passed in Melbourne, Each Highland elector Had shortened the greeting, They called him just “ Hector.” Two days and ten whiskies They met for a crack, He still was their hero It was “ How arc ye, Mac.” The latest conversion Was reached fairly quick. It may have been “ Hec.” But it sounded like “ Hie!”
