The Eotomahana run from Lyttelton to Wellington last night in 10 hours 40 minutes boating all merchant steamer records,
Suicide whilst temporarily insane. At the the inquest on James Mathers who hung himself on Friday, a verdict was returned of suicide whalst temporarily insane. Deceased left a letter addressed to the Inspector of Police stating he was tired of life.
Disgraceful treatment by Hoodlums. Auckland, Nov 3
A number of men at Huntly rescued a prisoner who was arrested on a charge of attempting to force his way into a ballroom, They seriously injured Constable Cavanah, breaking his ndse and similarly maltreated Constable Howell, who came to bis assistance. The assailants escaped.
Hoisting the Colours. New Plymouth, Nov 3
An interesting ceremony here this afternoon was the unveiling of the colours at four Imperial regiments, who fought in Maori Wars. A large number of vo'unteer cadets marched th ough crowded Streets to St Mary’s, headed by the Garrison Bind, and then the veterans of whom twenty-four paraded under Capt. Webster. At church after an impressive ceremony, Archdeacon Welsh (Waimata), painter of Hatchments, gave a brief address and handed the memorials to the church.
The Hatchments were then unveiled, and a dedication prayer by Archdeacon Gomt of New Plymouth was given. The Church w T aS crowded asd a noticeable feature Was tho gathering of old identiiies of the province. The Premier and Governor sent apologies for the absence.
