A CORRECTION.

(To the Editor,)

Sie, —In my letter to your paper of October 26th I stated that the Captain of the Wainui left the Grey offing at 5 a.m. on the above morning about four hours before high water. Whereas if he stayed to high water ho could have come into port. According to my then information I was led to believe that Captain Brown did the above action on his own responsibility, which afterwards were proved to be incorrect. It is well known now that Captain Brown was signalled from the shore to proceed to Westport at once. So that the worthy Captain is wholly blameless in the affair. I, therefore, apoligise to him for accusing him under a misapprehension.—l am, etc.,

A. Matiieson,
