The Third Reading in the Council.
The debate on the third reading of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill lasted in the Council from half past two till after eleven pm. A number of members of the House closely watched the debate, being evidently more interested in it, than the discussion which was proceeding in their own Chamber on native matters.
Mr Andrew Collins a member of the Wellington Conciliation Board was another observant spectator.
Throughout the whole proceedings it was noticed that the discussion was restricted to the opponents of the Bill in amended form, the supporters of it “sitting tight” in the hope of forming a division.
The third reading was affirmed by 19 to 0,
It was noticed that the Minister in charge of the Council gate his voice in stlpport of the third reading with evident disfavor. It now remains to he seen what course the Premier will take.
