The Government is advised teat Corporal W, J. Byrne of the Seventh Contingent, whose mother lives at Christchurch, died at Glonndovonden on October 23rd from gun shot in the chest. Also on October 21th James Crawford of the Seventh Contingent, who belongs to Waimate (Canterbury), was accidentally and severely wounded in the right forearm, and Alexander Mitchell of the Seventh Contingent who belongs to (Canterbury), was dangerously ill of enteric fever at Mooi Eiver on October 2Gtli.

He repulsed a heavy rear-guard attack by Grobelaar’s and Erasmus s commandos at Yizcrvarfontcin.
Colonel Henry expelled Nieuwliandt’s commando from a strong at Kolfyfontcin and is pursuing the flying enemy. The British Government, as an act of grace, alloted £69,559 compensation to all foreigners excepting Hollanders and Frenchmen deported from South Africa, Germany receiving £30,000. Major Holmes’s column captured 40 Boers' at Doornkop, and Colonel Pilcher 27 at Caledon Eiver.
