[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.]
London, October 23. The British have swept the| Babamanzo and Inhlazte districts clear of the enemy. Sergt E. A. Potter, formerly of the sih New Zealand Eiders, but now of the 7th New Zealand Mounted?, was dangerously wounded an Orangedale. The casualties at Paardoplaats include Captain Hugo H. Henry, of the 7th Now Zealand, who was pomewhat severely wounded in the thigh. General Hildyard asmmed command at Aldershot. - General Bu’ler’a sidos-de-camp have
General Long, in speaking at Liverpool said that Government could prove that General Duller was appointed to Aidershot on the grounds of policy. The justice of his dismissal was due to his speech, which was subversive of discipline . The Cabinet unanimously supported Lord Roberts. Every consideration, even affection, was shown in aff rding Duller facilities to explain. A man possessing the traditional British qualities in a greater degree than Duller probably never wore the King’s uniform, but a greater mistake than no soldier could have made.
In response to a petition to the King, signed by Alfred W. Kearney and a score of other Australians now at Clapham, the Wat Office has quashed the courtmartial proceedings, and ordered the immediate release of three members of the Fifth Victorian Mounted Infantry sentenced to death, and whose sentences were afterwards commuted to terms of penal servitude for mutinous conduct and resenting the epithet of “ white-livered curs ” used by Brigandier General Beat son on the occasion of the reverse to die Victorians at Williamsrust on June 12th.
General Beatson who, according to the Sydney Daily Telegraph (October 7th) used some strongly condemnatory language, was subsequently recalled.
