The usual meeting of the Grey County Council was commenced at the Council Chambers list night. Messrs. M’Kcchnio (chair), M’Carthy, Finn, Ryall, Marshall, Hargreaves, Larkin, Hmnan and Harris were present. I The following tenders wore dealt with PABOA-TEEHMAKAU EOAD. P Deere £95 0 0 A. Giffeney (aepd.) 52 10 0 M. Clancey ... 47 10 0 Mr. Harris said that the Government , had given £65 and the contract was only £52, leaving a balance ot £l3. He would, therefore, move that the amount be expended on the road under the E igincer’s supervision.—Carried. JIAINTENA'CE OF BLACKBALL EOAD. R. Crawford ... £l4O 0 0 W. Campbell ... 241 10 0„ M. Claneoy ... 199 0 0 The Chairman moved that Mr. Clancey receive the contract on condition that the Engineer’s specifications, which he failed t> fill in,-in the tender form, was carried out.—Carried. Two unsigned tenders for the above works were declared informal. 1 E, J. Beeves wrote asking the Council's opinion in regard to the Miner’s Right Reduction Bill. The Clerk stated that o i consulting the Chairman he replied that as the revenue of the Council had decreased on account of the Gold Duty Abolition Act the Council did not favor the reduction. From Ah Shoo asking permission to make deviation in Eevell’s track near Greenstone. Granted on condition that the road is put in repair to the satisfaction of the Council. From the Leviathan Gold Dredging Company asking for refund of £2l in connection with culvert near the claim. The damage was caused • by the bursting of an old tail-race which caused the dredge to get stranded. No action taken. From same asking permission to dredge across the Milton road which was not generally used. Resolved that the Conn- ‘ cil make no objections if the Company carry out the engineer’s conditions. From Harbor Board requesting Council to remove buildings on Nelson Street, Cobden, erected by T. O’Donnell. Cr Harris moved that the Engineer be empowered to compel the owner to remrve the buildings olf the Council reserve. Canned. Cr Harris moved that the Board be granted permission to fill in the same reserve. The Board to remove the rails when the Council demanded. Carried. The rates of an old man at Orwell Creek were remitted. • From J. Coates forwarding £5Ol rales due on Midland Railway. Received. From National Bank of New Zealand relative to charges in connection with County overdraft. The amount was £34. Passed for payment.'. From Invercargill Municipal Council asking Councils co-operation in getting legislation passed enabling local bodies to obtain loans of money from Government at not a higher rate of interest than 3£ per cent. From Under-Secretary of Mines stating that the Grey River had been proclaimed a sludge channel. From J. O’Brien asking for compensation caused through accident on road near Twelve Mile, stating he had two ribs broken and had suffered through damage to his trap. Cr Harris moved that tiio letter be received and no action taken. Mr Finn seconded. Mr Larkin- moved that the letter be referred to the Engineer. Mr Hannan j . seconded.

Amendment carried. Cr Larkin moved that the Clerk he instructed to write to the Government in regard to the Ngahere-Blackball bridge asking Government to construct same. Carried. Cr Larkin moved that the Engineer be instructed to repair track going to Nelson Creek cemetery. Carried.
