Teachers’ Salaries’ Bill.
Invercargill, October 21. To a deputation from the Southland Teachers’ Institute, Sir J, G. Ward said that the Government desired to pass the Teachers’ Salaries’ Bill this session, but there was a cross fire of criticism from various quarters, including Teachers’ Institutes, that jeopardised the measures.
They needed reform, but it would not come in the shape to please everyone at first, but if the principle of a Colonial scale was established, amendments could come afterwards.
