FOOTBALL.
Ral Roses y. Stars.
This match, which has created a great deal of interest, was played on Victoria Park on Saturday, the weather and field being in good order. In football circles there has been much speculation as to which was the better team; many favored the Stars, but tire Roses by their play on Saturday proved themselves undoubtedly superior.
In the first spell the Roses played with determination from the start, and Eddy scored a clever try and later Alexander kicked a nice goal from a mark, the angle being a difficult one. In the second spell the Roses again had all-the best of the play: their forwards, especially in 100 e rushes, completely outclassed their opponents. B. West, who was playing a great game, scored from a good passing rush started by Eddy, and P. McCarthy also scored, both tries being unconverted. From a good dribbling rush right down the field White touched down for the Stars, no goal resulted and the game ended, the score being Roses 13, Stars 3. For the winners all played a good game. Eddy at half was a host in himself, and in the capacity of skipper would he hard to equal. Alexander’s kicking was much admired.
For the Stars all played a good sound game, bat M-‘Kechnie was greatly missed from the back division.
Mr W. Flynn must bo complimented on giving every satisfaction with the whistle.
