SAWMILL EMPLOYEES UNION.
A meeting of the Execu’ive Committee of the Sawmill Employees Union took place atM'Carthy’s Commercial Hotel on Saturday afternoon last, and was well attended. The principle business was the election of a Secretary to carry on the business of the Union for the ensuing twelve months, and Mr F. Keddell was eventually elected to fill the office. The rules were not submitted to the meeting owing to some delay in obtaining a copy of the “ Conciliation and Arbitration Act,” which wassent for to Wellington, and in accordance with which the rules of the Union must be dratted, Therefore it was resolved that they stand over until next meeting, and after meeting with the approval of the committee application would be made for the registration of the Union.
A large number of new members were enrolled, so that the Union is now fairly strong. After several small accounts were passed for payment, and the date of the next meeting fixed the business was concluded.
